自遠古開始，人死後的靈魂會被「過去神」邦特拉封在『書』中，收藏在地下的邦特拉圖書館。神離開人類後，管理圖書館和挖掘『書』的工作落在武裝司書身上。不少犯罪者亦會為自私的目的搜集、私藏及濫用『書』，其中最主要的是神溺教團。神溺教團為了他們的教義，無視別人的生命，奪取他人的『書』，而不斷與武裝司書對抗。
