Ash, Misty, and Tracey were about to take the ferry back to Pallet Town when they saw Lapras's friends and family near Tarroco Island. This school of Lapras was also Captain Crook's next target. Ash and his friends intervened with the pirates' plans, with Misty and her Water Pokémon destroying Captain Crook's ship and tying them with rope. Afterwards, Captain Crook and his crew were arrested along with Team Rocket. Misty then released every one of the captain's Tentacruel. Captain Crook is a selfish and menacing character, who mistreats both his Pokémon and crew members to get what he desires. His first mate, Ghali, keeps a lookout and alerts him to any promising targets. Captain Crook typically fires the ship's cannons at his target; however, these cannons are loaded with Poké Balls, each one containing a Tentacruel, which the captain uses to subdue targets.
