劇情描述一場圍繞聖杯的戰爭，聖杯可以實現勝利者的任何願望。 但要讓聖杯出現就必須要集結七位御主魔術師與七位從者英靈才能開始這場戰爭儀式。從者英靈一共有七個職階：Rider、Archer、Lancer、Caster、Berserker、Saber與Assassin。 御主魔術師們必須要與這七位從者英靈其中一位訂下契約，才能正式加入聖杯的爭奪戰。但聖杯戰爭中這七位魔術師御主與從者英靈必須要逐一排除掉其他對手，最終的勝利者才能得到願望機——聖杯。
