在人類無窮欲望的驅使下，資源的過度開發，終於將地球推向滅亡的境地。在地球步入毀滅後，以伯魯克為首的十二人眾，在火星建立起形同溫室、名為「圓頂」（DOME）的殖民基地。然而，隨著月球脫離軌道並一天天的逼近，除了面臨惡劣的環境遽變，人類更出現了無法繁衍後代的危機。於是，作為真人孩童的代用品，一種叫「人偶」（Doll）的人型機器人被普及開來。
