Philemon and his wife Baucis were a very humble, kind, generous and respectful couple, in fact were the only people in their village, nice enough to give the two travellers (Zeus and Hermes) shelter in their home, the previous people being selfish and refusing their requests. After they find the two travellers real identities, they are very respectful to them and want to give them more due to their divine status.
