Above the Duodecad (The Six Archmages and Six Braves) are the top of the Black and White Chain, Ishtar of the Black and Lloyd of the White. And above the Chain and in between the Holy Emperor, Vaas, is Grey. His real name is unknown to most and is later revealed to be Gaspard, a student of Tūs, the Philosopher of the Far East, and the senior apprentices of Asley and Melchi.
